Showcasing the Best New Music, Curating the Classics

PREVIEW: Gigs of the Week in Leeds, 30th March-5th April

Cherry Glazerr @ Headrow House, Saturday 30th March

Los Angeles’ garage-rock outfit Cherry Glazerr, fronted by the talented Clementine Creevy and which used to count Sasami Ashworth in its line-up, bring their current tour behind third album Stuffed & Ready to Leeds’ Headrow House this weekend. Expect scuzzy but highly melodic noise pop to jump around the room to! (TICKETS)

Julia Jacklin @ Belgrave Music Hall, Wednesday 3rd April

One of the most talented women toting a guitar around at the moment, rising Australian star Julia Jacklin fits neither into the ‘indie’ nor ‘singer-songwriter’ pigeonholes entirely comfortably. Her sophomore album Crushing, released last month and which got a Best New Music ranking, represented both a broadening and deepening of her template, and was an affecting portrait of the human struggle for love and autonomy. Mid-week at the Belgrave in Leeds might be smallest venue you ever get to see her in again! (TICKETS)

Nilüfer Yanya @ Brudenell Social Club, Friday 5th April

As you might expect from someone who grew up listening to all types of music from Nina Simone to Nirvana, British newcomer Nilüfer Yanya is not easily categorisable. Her debut album proper Miss Universe, released just last week, is an expression of versatility as much as talent, with many strains of music wrestling to be heard in the mix. She brings her live show to Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club in time for the weekend! (TICKETS)

Yak @ Brudenell Social Club, Friday 5th April

Indie fans in Leeds are spoiled for choice on Friday night at the Brudenell, with English alternative rock outfit Yak also playing the venue. Their sophomore album Pursuit Of Momentary Happiness was eventually released last month, an ordeal that involved a great deal of financial risk for the group’s lead singer Olly Burslem, and the wait was more than worth it.
