PREVIEW: Gigs of the Week in Leeds, February 29th-March 6th

Supergrass @ Leeds O2 Academy, Sunday 1st March

Commercially successful yet perennially underrated in the context of Britpop, Oxford-based trio Supergrass announced last year that they would be reforming in 2020 to mark the 25th anniversary of their debut album, I Should Coco, touring the UK as well as releasing a new greatest hits and career-spanning box set. That tour reaches Leeds this weekend, with an additional second gig scheduled for Sunday night. Limited tickets remain, and a great night of raucous indie-pop fun is in store! (TICKETS)

The Wants @ Brudenell Social Club, Sunday 1st March

Following a brace of warmly received singles in 2019 – ‘Clearly A Crisis’ and ‘Fear My Society’ – New York City-based trio The Wants gear up for the release of their debut album later in March with a jaunt around the UK. Their scuzzy, energetic yet enigmatic sound graces the Brudenell Social Club on Sunday night. (TICKETS)

Benjamin Francis Leftwich @ City Varieties, Thursday 5th March

York-based singer-songwriter Benjamin Francis Leftwich hasn’t perhaps pushed on in commercial terms since the UK Top Forty success of his 2011 debut Last Smoke Before The Snowstorm, but artistically his evolution has been gradual and impressive. Currently touring his third studio album Gratitude, Leftwich performs in the suitable environs of Leeds’ City Varieties on Thursday evening. (TICKETS)

…And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead @ Temple Of Boom, Friday 6th March

The modest surroundings of Temple Of Boom out on Millwright Street plays host to one of alternative rock’s most seasoned veterans on Friday night, as Texan outfit …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead bring the tour behind their 10th studio album X: The Godless Void And Other Stories to Leeds. (TICKETS)
