Showcasing the Best New Music, Curating the Classics

PREVIEW: Gigs of the Week in Leeds

Here’s the best gigs of the week coming up in Leeds.

Loyle Carner @ Leeds University Stylus – Sunday, October 1st

Loyle Carner will surely be near the top of most Best Albums of 2017 lists in a few months’ time, with his Mercury-nominated debut album Yesterday’s Gone receiving pretty much universal acclaim. His brand of soulful, jazz-influenced hip-hop comes to the outrageously small venue of Stylus at the university – and, unsurprisingly, tickets have already sold out. Boo.

Meadowlark @ The Wardrobe – Sunday, October 1st

If you haven’t already bagged tickets for Loyle Carner, then perhaps consider going across town to The Wardrobe for a rather different mood. A duo consisting of Dan Broadley and Kate McGill, the latter of whom found a degree of fame back in 2012 for her YouTube covers of popular hits, Meadowlark deal in matters of the heart. A bright, cinematically produced debut album, Postcards, was released in the summer to a warm reception.

Flyte @ Chapel at Church – Thursday, October 5th

Hailing from the capital, the self-styled ‘alternative pop’ quartet Flyte have been quietly building up their arsenal of songs and honing their live act since 2013. Previous tourmates of MS MR and Bombay Bicycle Club, they’re touring their recently released debut album The Loved Ones in a headline tour that sees them perform at Woodhouse Lane’s Church venue.
