PREVIEW: Gigs of the Week in Leeds, February 1st-7th

O’Flynn @ Headrow House, Saturday 1st February

His debut album Aletheia was one of 2019’s most inventive and original electronic music albums when released in September, and in 2020 the young London-based producer O’Flynn brings his live show to Leeds on Saturday night. Mabel @ Leeds O2 Academy, Sunday 2nd February

After one of the longest promotional cycle of buzz and anticipation in memory, Mabel’s full-length debut album, knowingly titled High Expectations, eventually succeeded in satisfying everything projected upon it. Following her much-lauded studio debut Varmints from 2016 with last year’s delightful FIBS, modern classical composer Anna Meredith brings her mesmerising live show to the Belgrave Music Hall to begin the week. Kele @ Brudenell Social Club, Thursday 6th February

Former Bloc Party lead singer Kele Okereke brings the tour behind his fourth solo album 2042 to the Brudenell on Thursday evening, a politicised record whose title refers to the year that ethnic minorities are projected to become the majority population in the U.S.. Kele’s talents as a performer are long established, and you can still get tickets here. (TICKETS)

Beans On Toast @ Brudenell Social Club, Friday 7th February

Jay McAllister brings his alternative take on folk music to the Brudenell in time for the start of the weekend. Having released (as is tradition) his 11th Beans On Toast album The Inevitable Train Wreck back on December 1st last year, his live show is one to catch if you’ve never had the pleasure before.
