PREVIEW: Gigs of the Week in Leeds, 8th-14th June

Death Grips @ O2 Academy Leeds, Saturday 8th June

One of the most insanely abrasive and intensely energetic live bands currently in operation, experimental hip-hop/punk trio Death Grips come to Leeds on their biggest tour yet. Hot off the back of last year’s Year Of The Snitch, their sixth studio effort, their bizarre creations are truly something to experience in the live arena. If you don’t like moshpits though, stand back! (TICKETS)

Sacred Paws @ Headrow House, Wednesday 12th June

Rachel Aggs (sometime member of Shopping) and Eilidh Rodgers, who together comprise the deliriously fun Scottish indie duo Sacred Paws, met as members of the now-defunct Golden Grrrls several years back. Striking out on their own, the hype surrounding their recently released sophomore album Run Around The Sunis well-deserved, following up on their 2017 debut Strike A Matchwhich won the Scottish Album of the Year award. Charging under a tenner to see one of the country’s most enjoyable new live acts is an absolute bargain! (TICKETS)

Confidence Man @ Brudenell Social Club, Friday 14th June

An electro-pop band from Australia, Confidence Man is definitely one not to miss this week in Leeds – they are an extremely charismatic and upbeat group whose danceable music and addictive rhythms have taken the world by storm. Last year they released their debut album Confident Music For Confident People which got positive reviews for being bratty and euphoric, two words which also describe Confidence Man perfectly. Don’t wait and grab your tickets to see them at Brudenell this Friday night! (TICKETS)

Hyde Park Brass @ The Wardrobe, Friday 14th June

What was initially a one-off performance at University of Leeds turned into a band playing live across the UK and beyond. Today, Hyde Park Brass is the city’s most exciting brass project and one of the most promising young bands overall. Listen to Hyde Park Brass’ eponymous debut album from 2018 and their recently released EP Powerhouse, before grabbing tickets for the Friday gig at The Wardrobe. (TICKETS)

A Heavenly Weekend @ Brudenell Social Club, Friday 14th-Saturday 15th June

A fundraiser in aid of the Heavenly Social bar and venue in central London, recently threatened with closure, this two-day event is, appropriately, taking place at the oldest independent venue in the country. A brilliant line-up for a good cause, the weekend features sets from Baxter Dury, Stealing Sheep, Gwenno, Hatchie, Boy Azooga and Working Men’s Club. Oh, and a DJ set from The Orielles. Tickets only left for Saturday, unfortunately! (TICKETS)
