Showcasing the Best New Music, Curating the Classics

PREVIEW: Gigs of the Week in Leeds, 6th-12th July

Mattiel @ Brudenell Social Club, Monday 8th July

A singer-songwriter from Atlanta, Mattiel Brown is one of the most exciting new faces of garage rock. Often compared to early White Stripes, and not so surprisingly mentored by Jack White himself now, Mattiel and her eponymous band bring something unique to rock music – both the vintage sound of the ‘60s and some contemporary flavour too, which promises something extraordinary as a result. Her new album Satis Factory came out last month, so definitely give it a go and grab your tickets for the gig! (TICKETS)

Girlpool @ Headrow House, Tuesday 9th July

GCleo Tucker and Harmony Tividad, also known as Girlpool, are a lo-fi, dreamy duo whose emotive music has gained them fans pretty much all over. With three albums released to date and countless songs which sound brilliant live, Girlpool are an obvious choice for a Tuesday night at Headrow House. Check out their latest album What Chaos Is Imaginary while waiting for the gig in Leeds! (TICKETS)

Joan As Police Woman @ Leeds College of Music, Wednesday 10th July

Joan As Police Woman, or Joan Wasser, is known for writing emotive and personal songs, in which she uses influences from genres such as rock, pop and soul. Her music is very much rooted in the depth of her emotion and guided by Joan’s passionate voice. Her album from 2018 Damned Devotion, turned out to be excellent while Joan keeps proving that she’s also unstoppable when performing live. Make sure not to miss her gig this week at the College of Music, it should be an amazing one! (TICKETS)

360Raw #9 @ The Library Pub, Friday 12th July

The ninth edition of Leeds’ new music showcase The 360 Club’s extra-special nights upstairs at The Library Pub comes on Friday night! In addition to a line-up of four bands consisting of Leeds acts Daves and Sir Curse – the latter of whom have just released excellent debut single ‘Tarot’ – plus Thieves Of Misfortune and Mark Of A Thief, and the usual DJ set from Alan Raw, there’s also an industry panel beforehand at 6:30pm for new artists called ‘Getting Your Music Out, Heard and Noticed’. Don’t miss out! (TICKETS)
