Guitar legends? Check. Beautiful weather? Check. Tapas? Check. Mad Cool is currently the fastest rising music festival in Europe, and it’s easy to see why. There isn’t a single other festival which can boast the sheer amount of legends in one easy-to-find location: Madrid.
The festival isn’t just a place for legends, with it also playing home to some of the most well-renowned acts on the planet today. You have Tame Impala, Perfume Genius, MGMT amongst many others, immediately showing the festival to be one of the best on offer.
Located in the north of Madrid, the festival is the perfect getaway with its late starts and finishes allowing tourists and locals alike to be able to enjoy their days before dancing in the moonlight. It’s also less commercialised than other European music festivals with food and drink on the lower end of the scale to add to the appeal for those wanting to save their money – or just get more booze for your buck.
Headlined by Pearl Jam, Depeche Mode, Jack White, Queens of the Stone Age and Arctic Monkeys, the emerged festival, on its new and improved (larger, it’s a much larger) site, looks set to challenge Barcelona’s Primavera Sound and Bilbao’s BBK for the holder of the Spain’s largest festival.

Mad Cool isn’t just a one-trick pony either; it also features some of the best names in the electronic acts on the planet. There’s Justice, Daniel Avery, Underworld, The Black Madonna amongst so much more.
While the festival doesn’t quite match Primavera in its platforming of up-and-coming musicians, it does do more than its fair share to put a spotlight on the emerging talents. There’s Dua Lipa, Goat Girl, The Big Moon, Holy Bouncer and a plethora of local acts providing the bulk of the undercard.
So, if you’re wanting a festival with legends and some of the best emerging talent in the world, then you could do far worse than to pay Madrid a visit this July. The ever-growing and ever-evolving Mad Cool looks set to once more play host to the most rambunctious party in Europe and the best part is, everyone’s invited.
Are you jetting off to Mad Cool this summer? Or are you tempted by the lineup? You could do worse than to check out our little playlist below and let us know about any of your experiences with the festival.
