Showcasing the Best New Music, Curating the Classics

PREVIEW: Gigs of the Week in Leeds, 9th-15th February

Joy Formidable @ The Key Club, Monday 11th February

Joy Formidable are a Welsh rock trio whose dreamy post-punk sound is anthemic and easily recognisable. They also became increasingly experimental with the release of their latest album from 2018 titled AAARTH, which resulted in their music being more playful or even more emotional and melodramatic. Joy Formidable are playing The Key Club this Monday – make sure to be there! (TICKETS)

Neneh Cherry @ Leeds University, Tuesday 12th February

Most often described as unpredictable and groundbreaking, Neneh Cherry has been making music since the ‘80s when she started in the UK post-punk scene. During her career, Neneh Cherry explored many different musical genres, including pop, world music or trip-hop, while also being politically outspoken throughout those years. One of the most forward-thinking and diverse artists in music, Neneh Cherry is on the must-see list of gigs in Leeds this week. (TICKETS)

Wild Nothing @ Belgrave Music Hall, Wednesday 13th February

Wild Nothing (aka Jack Tatum) makes atmospheric music which often references artists from previous decades, while also smoothly incorporating influences from contemporary artists. The latest album Indigo (2018) was an amazing example of Tatum’s ability to blend pop, electronica and ‘80s vibes into one, mesmerising record that emphasized his natural songwriting skills. Wild Nothing will play this Wednesday at Belgrave, be sure not to miss it! (TICKETS)

The Lemonheads @ Leeds University, Wednesday 13th February

After releasing a new album after 9 long years of absence, The Lemonheads were finally back in 2018 with a sequel to Varshons called Varshons 2. Although both albums consisted of cover songs, they did bring back one of the iconic bands from the ‘80s to the present time. Known for their blend of post-punk, pop, country-rock and Evan Dando’s smooth vocals, The Lemonheads are definitely not to be missed at Leeds University Stylus this coming Wednesday. (TICKETS)
