Showcasing the Best New Music, Curating the Classics

PREVIEW: Gigs of the Week in Leeds, 13th-19th October

Tom Odell @ O2 Academy, Tuesday 16th October

Tom Odell became an international sensation in 2013, after the release of his debut album Long Way Down. The LP reached number one on the UK charts, gained Odell fans all over the world, and earned him the Critics’ Choice BRIT Award. His atmospheric, piano-led music is emotional and catchy at the same time, possessing qualities that make it almost irresistible and hard not to anticipate Odell’s new releases. Fortunately, Jubilee Road (Odell’s next album) is set to come out on the 26th of October and has already received a lot of attention from his fans and the critics. If you are keen on hearing some of Odell’s new song beforehand, then definitely try to see him this Tuesday at the O2 Academy.

Our Girl @ Oporto, Tuesday 16th October

Our Girl have played in Leeds just a few weeks before, but they left such a good impression on us that it would be hard not to recommend them to you again. The trio emerged from the London garage-rock scene a few years ago, but 2018 turned out to be a truly break-through year for them. This year, Our Girl releases their debut album titled Stranger Today and embarked on a nation-wide tour to support it. Their live performances are lively and show exactly why the band has already been spotted by the music press on included on BBC 6Music’s playlists. Our Girl is just starting out, so seeing them play live at the intimate venue such as Oporto should be just perfect.

Rudimental @ O2 Academy, 18th October

The sheer number of hits that Rudimental have released over the past few years is hard to count. From the unforgettable ‘Waiting All Night’ with Ella Eyre, through the electrifying ‘Free’ with Emelie Sandé to the most recent ‘These Days’ featuring Jess Glynne, Macklemore and Dan Caplen, Rudimental are irreplaceable when it comes to delivering memorable tunes. Their mix of electronic music, dubstep, R&B, house and drum’n’bass is something that caught fire virtually as soon as Rudimental started working together in London, back in 2009. Today, they are one of the most successful acts on the electronic music scene and one that will surely bring a lot of great memories to the O2 Academy this Thursday.
