Indie survivors Maxïmo Park will take to Leeds’ O2 Academy stage for the closing party of the Live At Leeds 2017 weekend on Sunday night. The Newcastle-formed band, renowned for their energetic live performances, will be sure to put on an excellent farewell to the festival following, what will surely be, an exciting day of new music the day before.
The four-piece are back in the limelight, having recently released their sixth record Risk To Exist, an album which has seen Maxïmo Park move away from their frantic guitar sound towards a more synth-infused style of indie-pop. Lead singer Paul Smith, previously renowned for his cryptic, intelligent lyrics, has shifted his style to make something more explicitly political.
However, the hits will be flowing on a showcase night like this, and with tracks like ‘Our Velocity’, ‘Hips And Lips’ and 2005 breakthrough single ‘Apply Some Pressure’ (yes, they really have been around for 12 years!), the night will be a perfect showcase to forget about the troubles of university whilst listening to some straight-forward indie-pop.
See Maxïmo Park play the 02 Academy in Leeds on Sunday 30th April.
