Showcasing the Best New Music, Curating the Classics

PREVIEW: Gigs of the Week in Leeds, December 2nd-8th

Happy December everybody!

While it may be the month of appalling Christmas music being piped in to every shop, café, bar and public place imaginable, the venues of Leeds still have many merciful escapes to offer in December. Here’s the three gigs we recommend catching in Leeds this week – from December 2nd-8th.

‘Us v Them’ festival curated by Field Music @ Brudenell Social Club, Saturday December 2nd

Returning with their seventh album Open Here next February, Sunderland’s Field Music are using their power as one of the noughties’ hardiest indie survivors to curate a day of live music at the Brudenell Social Club on Saturday.

Starting at 2pm and spreading across both rooms of the Brude, the Brewis brothers will be headlining the evening as well as performing alongside ideological fellow-travellers in the indie world, such as the insanely fun Dutch Uncles, former Mercury Prize nominee C Duncan and krautrock/funk outfit Warm Digits.

At £22.50 for a full day’s entertainment and with access to the lovely bar area, this is a great way to spend the day out of the cold and enjoy some great independent music! Get tickets for ‘Us v Them’ here!

Cousin Kula @ Headrow House, Sunday December 3rd

There’s more than just Liam Gallagher happening this weekend in Leeds. If something a bit more left-field is your thing, Bristol-based psych-pop oddballs Cousin Kula are touring their latest EP OODLES, released this month, and arrive in the chic environs of Headrow House to finish off Sunday.

The Charlatans @ O2 Academy Leeds, Thursday December 7th

Off the back of their excellent 13th studio album Different Days, released earlier in 2017 to deserved acclaim, The Charlatans are doing a well-earned victory lap of the UK prior to Christmas. Having endured more tragedy and survived more musical fashion and landscape changes than virtually anybody else in operation today, this is an opportunity to see masters at work.
