Showcasing the Best New Music, Curating the Classics

PREVIEW: Gigs of the Week in Leeds, 29th June-5th July

The Stroppies @ Hyde Park Book Club, Monday 1st July

Formed in Melbourne three years ago from a number of different bands, three piece The Stroppies are quite something to behold in the live arena. In their words, the band crafts “modest, idiosyncratic pop songs”, but in reality they come across as an updated, over-caffeinated take on Alex Chilton’s work. Their latest EP It’s A Hit! is set for release later in July, piling on the hype after their debut album Whoosh from earlier this year, and they head to the Hyde Park Book Club in Leeds on Monday night! (TICKETS)

L.A. Witch @ Headrow House, Thursday 4th July

Like the polaroid negative of a Spectorian girl group with their gothic, sleazy Mary Chain-esque garage rock, L.A. Witch earned rave reviews last spring when they hit Headrow House in promotion of their eponymous debut album. Having released another EP in November, the trio are returning to the same Leeds venue for what’s sure to be another blistering set. (TICKETS)

Galaxians @ Hyde Park Book Club, Friday 5th July

Currently working on the follow-up to their well-received 2017 debut album Let The Rhythm In, the immensely fun Galaxians are back for another brief jaunt around Britain this summer, and are dropping in on Leeds in time for the weekend. Their malleable, electronic funk makes for excellent entertainment, combined with a passion for performance artistry that brings to mind bands like Confidence Man. The Hyde Park Book Club is indeed blessed this week! (TICKETS)
