Only in Britain can some snow become a national headline event. Weather has always preoccupied the nation’s psyche – famously, it’s all that anybody over the age of 50 ever talks about – and yet everyone’s still so stunningly under-prepared for it when it happens.

Even here, on a music site, it’s driven us to make a playlist dedicated to all things cold weather – snow, ice, winter, the lot – as we shiver and wait for the Beast of the East to pass over. While it’s most definitely a time to be inside, we’ve created a soundtrack for walking around in the freezing cold to.
