Showcasing the Best New Music, Curating the Classics

PREVIEW: Gigs of the Week in Leeds

Sifaka @ Brudenell Social Club – Saturday, September 23rd

‘BBC Introducing…’ favourites Sifaka have been tearing up the West Yorkshire scene for a while now with their Malian-infused desert blues. Now, you can see the seven-piece in the flesh as they take their intricate sound to the Brudenell Social Club. The best thing about it? The gig is free! You’d be foolish to miss the set.

Rae Morris @ Belgrave Music Hall – Wednesday, September 27th

For Bombay Bicycle Club backing singer, turned bonafide frontwoman, Rae Morris has long been a jewel in the UK songwriting crown. The Blackpool songstress, renowned for her sumptuous vocals and excellent dramatization, will surely set the Belgrave alight with the venue providing the perfect backdrop for her intimate sound. Morris has long been the support act, after opening for Noah & The Whale, George Ezra and the aforementioned Bombay Bicycle Club, but, on the back of some excellent singles Morris is now truly read to step into the starlight in her own right.

Kiran Leonard @ Brudenell Social Club – Monday, September 25th

Putting it mildly, Kiran Leonard is a musical genius. Emerging into the music landscape via Radio 6Music at the tender age of 17, Leonard has amassed a cult following for his rambunctious experimental sound. Constantly finding a hook in the most unlikely of places Leonard pushes the barriers of pop. Recent effort Derevaun Seraun saw Leonard further push what is to be expected of him, with an album revolving around voice, piano and a string trio in what is one of the best records of 2017 thus far. Leonard isn’t known for the frequency of his shows (the only other gigs on the tour are a London double and a Manchester show), so head down to see this rare talent perform Derevaun Seraun for what may be the last time!
