Showcasing the Best New Music, Curating the Classics

PREVIEW: Gigs of the Week in Leeds, 18-24th November

On the back of a busy week which saw a ludicrous amount of talent visit Leeds and the West Yorkshire area, things are beginning to calm down a bit as autumn reaches its end. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a plethora of talent to come. The bands below all have The Student Playlist stamp of approval, and while we didn’t find the space to mention Girli and The Killers in detail, both are well worth a watch over the weekend.

Protomartyr @ Brudenell Social Club – Sunday, November 19th

For the past decade Detroit band Protomartyr have been proving themselves as one of the best bands in the world. Now on the back of their new album Relatives In Descent (which we named Best New Music), you can go and see their unique blend of post-punk meets noise-rock at the legendary Brudenell Social Club. Expect it to be loud.

The Moonlandingz @ Church – Sunday, November 19th

Protomartyr not your thing but still wanting to make something of your Sunday night? Then head to Church to see The Moonlandingz deliver their eccentric lighter style of rock. The band consists of members of Fat White Family and Eccentronic Research Council, which, if you’ve seen either play live, you will know guarantees an interesting and exciting night of music.

Blaenavon @ The Wardrobe – Tuesday, November 21st

It took a while, but Blaenoven have finally arrived with their debut album That’s Your Lot. Produced by legendary indie producer Jim Abbiss, the album was a fun spectacle of raucous indie-rock and heavy atmospherics, and with such credentials the band are definitely worth a watch after a long stretch on the hype-machine.
