Showcasing the Best New Music, Curating the Classics

PLAYLIST: September 2017

Happy new academic year to you all!

If you’re new to Leeds and want to get plugged in to the city’s music scene, we’ve got you covered. Leeds is renowned for being friendly and welcoming, and that reputation is to be found throughout the city’s proud independent scene – bars, coffee houses, music venues and record shops aplenty are to be found in all corners, once you explore past the new gleaming eyesores and soulless malls.

For you record collectors wanting to know where to get your vinyl kicks, check out our directory-style guide of the best record shops in the city – both new and second-hand outlets.

Back in the general music scene, September brought us a hint of new music from Björk, who literally never makes bad albums. Her forthcoming tenth LP, as yet untitled, should be coming out in November. The same month should see a new record from Morrissey, who entertainingly set up a Twitter account while revealing the album’s title Low In High School a couple of weeks ago.

Keep an eye on the site for reviews of new albums in October from the likes of Bully, St. Vincent, Beck, Liam Gallagher, Benjamin Clementine – and not to mention the last ever release from the sadly-demised Wild Beasts as they prep an EP.

Check out our Spotify playlist of all the best new music released in September 2017, and give us a follow on Twitter (@StudentPlaylist) and Facebook.

Happy listening!
