Showcasing the Best New Music, Curating the Classics

PLAYLIST: September 2016

University has started again, a distinct freshness is in the air, and summer is but a distant memory… it must be September.

Never fear, however, because the coming months are stuffed with hotly anticipated releases from some seriously big names in guitar music and beyond. Green Day have a new album out, Pixies’ comeback continues with aplomb, and Two Door Cinema Club and Kings Of Leon even unleash records on the same day.

September provided its fair share of great new music: most specifically, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ spectral new effort Skeleton Tree which was our Album of the Month. Preoccupations – forced to change their name from Viet Cong last year – returned with what was effectively a second self-titled debut.

Much talked-about American debutants The Lemon Twigs – signed to the prestigious 4AD – give us their first album Do Hollywood, and British indie acts Fat White Family and The Wytches geared up for new releases with prime cuts for the radio.

On the pop side of things, chart heavyweights Lady Gaga and The Weeknd unleashed brand new singles ahead of new albums arriving in October and November respectively.

These ten tracks are our highlights of September 2016 – happy listening!
